I was riding in my friend Herberth’s car, the misty San Francisco summer made it look like the moon, and “I’ll be waiting” by Santana was playing on his radio. As we drove up into the rolling fog of upper Portola and out toward the Pacific Ocean, the whole world felt like we were in a cloud. We pulled over and laughed about it. Imaging the rest of the world panting with heat, and here we are on the moon. How lucky we are to be here. What a gift this beautiful, but exploited, misunderstood and misrepresented place is. We were very glad that we know what it is to be home.
That night I got my copy of this album out and looped a part of it, actually pitching it down, added a TR-909 Kick, some Linn drum additions, and my own congas. Filter is accomplished by passing the record into my modular filter and playing with it in real time.
A bonafide, live, on the fly, rework of a deeply misunderstood mood by a beautiful man.
