Last Sunday’s transmission was like an oasis in a desert for me. At the end of a long weekend of gigs with Jenö in Denver we piled into cars and headed over to Chris’s warehouse for a little tour, and a quick set up to start broadcasting. It was intimate and close, and I just tried to open my heart up and express myself with familiar songs. As the show unfolded, I found myself lightening up a lot, and playing with ideas, and the people in the room. It was fun. I needed that.
This was the last transmission of this type. This coming sunday we begin Sunday Soul San Francisco and will be broadcasting live from Space Gallery in SF. We gather up at 8pm for food and community, a forum – where the guest will speak on the week’s theme, and then at 10 we dance. The transmission will continue as always, I believe that Space Gallery has a sufficient connection to support the stream, but the focus will be on the event itself. I’m trying to live in the real world, and to contribute to it as best I can.
On the way over in the car Lois turned me on to the amazing Alice Russell. I was blown away, so I began and closed the broadcast with her powerful voice and dreamy music. Chris joined me on the rooftop earlier in the evening on the drums, and that made things right. I am so grateful to my friends and family in Denver for being so supportive and loving. Rain or shine it is always a pleasure to be with you guys. Deana made the scene, April and Stella, Chris, Lois, and Jenö was a trooper. In the end we were hanging at the airport smiling at one another. Glad to be heading home.
