Rhythm Machines of the Glorious (but distant) Past

RHYTHM MACHINES OF THE GLORIOUS (BUT DISTANT) PAST
A COLLECTION OF SAMPLES IN WAV FORMAT FROM DRUM MACHINES I HAVE KNOWN AND LOVED

DOWNLOAD
19.7 MB ZIP ARCHIVE FORMAT – VERSION 0.1A JANUARY 2018

Here is a list of the machines included:
Korg CompuRhythm (loops,) Roland CR78, CR-8000, TR-909, TR-808, TR-707, TR-727, TR-606, TR-626, Sequential Circuits Drum Tracks, TOM, Studio 440 (stock samples,) Emu SP-1200 (the original four disc sets which shipped with my special edition reissue,) Univox Rhythmer RK 12, Akai MPC-60 (Gated Drums disc that came with mine,) Live Kit (actual drum hits on actual drums,) Yamaha RX11, LINN Drum, Oberheim DMX.

Nothing has been omitted, or edited beyond editing the samples for a nice clean playback. No attempt has been made to make the sounds louder, or bigger, or augmented in any way. They are raw, and very real. Enjoy them, or process them as you see fit. Or, follow my lead and think of these as a wonderful introduction to the world of hardware drum machines and percussion sequencers. Samples are fun, and allow us to bring a lot of different things wherever we go in a smaller package, but there’s nothing as wonderful as the real thing.

AGREEMENT:
By downloading this collection of samples you are agreeing to the following:

1. You are free to use these samples in exploration, experimentation, and adventures in sound and music.

2. You may not disambiguate, disassemble, and package, re package, or re distribute these samples in any form (in whole or in part) for any reason. Not even to save kittens.
Really, if someone wants it, send them to me and I’ll give it to them for free. You can be a big shot for knowing where to get them, right?

3. These samples in this collection, or any rearrangement of any of the samples in this collection are distributed for free. They may never be sold in any form, for any reason. Not even to feed the starving people of Wisconsin.

4. Sunshine Jones claims no rights to the sounds, thus, you are 100% free to use them in your music without the risk of there ever being some sort of lame-ass claim to ownership of anything. Royalty free. I did this for love, and to help my community. No other intention is implied, or shall ever be put forward.

TO SUMMARIZE:
This collection must remain this particular collection. Don’t take it apart and change the name and try to sell it somewhere or take credit for it. It is free. It will always be free. And it will not be sold. It will never be for sale.
If you can agree to this then you are free to enjoy these sounds and make music with them, tear them apart, mangle them to shreds, and forge new and beautiful music that changes people’s lives.

ABOUT THIS COLLECTION:
These are all recordings of machines I have owned. I recorded them, and toted the sounds around with me for years. There’s really nothing super far out, or unique here. They are the meat and potatoes of rhythm machines. Building blocks to better things.
Recently I’ve been observing this manic obsession with machines from the past, and feeling like the capitalist adventure to re package and re sell these sounds is just sad. It seems almost predatory to me that such widely known, and deeply loved, fundamental sounds should be offered up as “rare” or “essential” and then sold to people who are only just beginning to get started sampling, making their own beats, and getting down together might actually pony up the cash for sounds which with a few names of drum machines could have for free.
Then I started to think, well shit. Sometimes those free sites are full of bad code, and crummy recordings. So how about I just package up some golden oldies and give them away to the world for nothing?
I thought about this for a week or so, and then was confronted by yet another ad for a lame package of the same old sounds for sale for $25 and I thought, fuck it, I’m doing it right now.
And so I did it, and here it is.
I hope you find the rhythm of your own heartbeat. I hope you find the process by which you are able to express this and document it, and give it wildly to the world.

With so much love,
Sunshine Jones

@Ernesto – You and I have made magic together without the help of any machines…. it’s true. One experience doesn’t disqualify the other, in fact we have proven that they are even better together! xo

  47. Thank you so much Sunshine Jones! As someone just getting started in music production, I can’t wait to explore all of these sounds. What you wrote about a new person just getting started in music production was so true. It’s already scary and frustrating and things like this help out in the most tremendous way. Thank you for your love of music now and always. Thank you for always sharing your heart and soul when you produce and play music. I hope to utilize these sounds to make beautiful, beautiful music. With love from San Antonio. <3

  48. Top sounds from a top man! Big respect Sunshine brother
