It’s hard to believe that in a couple hours I am headed out to the airport again. I mean… I believe it because I am packing, and considering when will be best to call the taxi, and which tooth paste I’m going to bring, what I’m going to play, and what I should wear… It’s going to happen, but I just got home and am barely rested up yet. Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining. This is exactly the way I like it. Go, go, and go. I can sleep when I’m dead. I am in motion and I love it. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
Friday Night: Gainesville
I am so excited to be heading back to Gainesville. I hear that the house scene there has fallen off quite a bit. That doesn’t surprise me too much, it’s a college town and usually college students like whatever’s happening at the moment. That means they’re laying around in their dorms with hangovers listening to Coldplay and Kanye West instead of getting filthy in warehouses and doing the robot to old Kool Mo Dee 12″ singles. It’s ok with me. House music isn’t for everyone and shame on the UK propaganda machines for pretending it is was. And double shame on whoever came up with Electronica as a means of dumbing us down and estranging us from our roots. I’m damned proud to be a house producer. I spin at 120 bpm when I’m excited and wide awake, and it moves my soul.
My friend Simon and I agree that it’s better this way, and all we need to do is get it together, dance, feel the energy of the music in our hearts and everything’s gonna be ok. Right on Simon! See you tonight.
Saturday Night: Tampa
While I’ve been out of the loop in Florida it seems that my long lost friend Jask has gone and busted out the most happening party in the entire state. Paradise at the Hyde Park Café. Everyone says this is the party to be at, and I’m gonna love it. I dig Jask’s music, and can’t wait to play with him. I also hear reports that many of my long lost Florida friends and family are planning to come out and get down with me here. I can’t wait. I may not be prepared to play “I want my planet back” but I certainly intend to throw down some filthy and beautiful electonic music, sing for you a little, and take it from there.
Sunday Night: Orlando
Sunday is a new thing for me. Simon and Chang worked together to help me get connected to a very active group of people called Rhythm and Flow. I’ve checked them out and it seems like they’ve got the vibe. At least they make really nice flyers, and book good musicians. So I’m happy to be making new friends and reuniting with old one’s too.
* deletes a couple of paragraphs reviewing the good times I have had as a part of Dubtribe in Florida… i’ll spare you the review until after the gigs are played, k? *
So I’m off…
See you monday night.

After a 16 hour journey including tropical storms, lightning, waiting for hours in the rain in a tiny prop plane watching all our carry on luggage get rained on, I’m here in Gainesville, safe and sound.
Simon and I had dinner in a groovy book store and then went for some coffee. Going to the club now.
Feels like home here.

Last night in Gainesville was truly amazing. Old friends, new faces, augmented sound system, and so much fun!
Been resting and hanging out at Simon’s amazing home all day. We’re about ready to roll down to Tampa for tonight’s show!

It was sooooo good to see you.
You and your friends were so lovely. Thank you so much for being such shining stars in a fairly swank environment. So were Karen, Simon, Max, Dana, Chang, Cubanix, Jask, Coro and everyone else who hung out, got down and kept it really thumpin’
I had a really good time. Thanks for being a huge part of it.

Well there had to be one klunker in the bunch, and tonight was it. Sadly, the Orlando show was a definite misfire. However, there were some good people and old friends there for a while, some stayed to the bitter end.
I kept my head down, and my chin up and did my thing for me.
Still, I gotta admire people for trying, giving all they got, showing up at all on a sunday night at midnight in orlando, florida. I love you.

what was misfire about it, space, crowd, lack of crowd, you suddenly forgot how to mix. but hey, 2/3 ain’t bad.

Sunday nights are tough I guess, especially after two really super fantastic nights in a row. Makes sense. These things come in natural waves.
I welcome both the ebb and the flow.

Maybe Sunday night you were still blinded from my camera flashing..I came home to realise I took almost 50 pictures! It was a fantastic set and an amazing experience overall. It was fabulous to actually be able to SEE you perform again and experience everything up close & in person. I adore the intimacy of Sunday Soul, but Sunshine live and unleashed is such a beautiful experience. The night absolutely exceeded my expectations. I still have a big permagrin plastered across my face. It was so wonderful meeting you!

Same here. Yes indeed.
You are so tiny. I expected you to be a foot talled, and perhaps a bit more robust. Dunnoe why… funny old inter-web.
So happy to know your face immediately, and say “Hi!” and give you a hug.
Thanks again for being there and making the night so awesome and personal for me (for everyone.)

orlando is a cheesy place and that is no lie, sorry party people who live here….it’s true…..i haven’t felt any really good house music vibe since i moved back a couple of years ago….it’s like orlando misses the house music boat somehow…..if they come out on a fri. or sat. night….it’s a fluke that they just happened to hear a wonderful dj and usually have no clue about westcoast music……it’s just that they haven’t been exposed to deep house and most people i have met so far (there are the exceptions) are somewhat close minded.
i don’t like to be a pessimist, there are beautiful things about living in this city, but getting to go out and listen to deep house music with a groovin’ group of people on the dance floor isn’t one of them,
I maintain hope however and a little bird told me that Mark Farina will be here soon….

btw, thank you sunshine for taking the time to come here and i’m so happy i came over to tampa for saturday night……

Damn I feel old now:-) haha…
Now fast forward 12 years later and me and the hyde park cafe have past the decade mark together. Alot of things have changed and some have stayed the same. But bringing in the best talent every year has always been one of our goals. I’m Glad Sunshine finally got to experience our vibe. Sorry it took so long for you to perform here, but like they say, good things come to those who wait. The show was amazing and the energy was electric. I can’t wait to bring ya back brother.
