I dropped my laptop off at the apple store for a keyboard replacement. I’ve used apple care before, and been to the genius bar many times. What’s changed at apple is the concierge, a person who used to be stationed at the end of the genius bar, often unassuming and quiet, would greet you calmly, and arrange for your needs to be met.
Now we are greeted by young, smiling, greeter-like faces who appear to be here to “help” us find what we’re looking for. It’s easy to shut down, not to look at them, not to acknowledge them, to zoom right past them because I’m at the apple store and not the Gap. Then you realize they were there to actually help you. I return with some reluctance, and wish things were how they used to be.
Still, my computer is checked in, the script is read to me, I sign the paper and 22 hours later my laptop is repaired, and back in perfect condition. Say what you will about macintosh, or apple. Feel how you will about enthusiastic youthiness in teal blue t-shirts, but i love my mac, and think apple are a fantastic company.
Thank you.
