It’s the tune of the month for me, hands down.
Though it’s a bit bitter sweet. We never did meet for coffee did we? So that day has not yet come. Hard to accept, sad to think about, the excitement, and idealism of my hopes and dreams are so difficult to kill.
Osunlade The day we met for coffee (Afefe Iku Coffee Break Remix)
Sad but true, perhaps it never will.

Or my second favorite:

You can listen to the music, buy it, download it, and play it in iTunes, or burn it to CD. The future is now.

Osunlade is a dj/producer from Saint Louis.
He’s been spinning, and producing since way back in the day. Strangely enough it’s really only been the last 4-5 years that have brought him the noteriety and respect he deeply deserves.
Selected productions by Osunlade from my collection:
Atelewo - New Day
Vivian Green - Emotional Rollercoaster
Robert Strauss - Rhythm Of Life EP
Daniell Spencer & Funky Transport - Butterfly (Osunlade Remixes)
Osunlade - The Deep
Osunlade - The Fifth Dimension
Roy Ayres and Osunlade - Tarzan
Osunlade - Music for the gods
Osunlade - Inspiration in flight
Ethnic Heritage Ensemble - Ancestral Song (Osunlade Remix)
Flow - Osunlade
And so many more…
Enjoy!

And $110 later… I am enjoying. Bought stuff from both sites, but more from DanceTracksDigital. I’ve been in the mood for some deep trance with African rhythms and hit the mother load there. I picked up a bunch of other good music too. Thanks!

It’s interesting itsn’t it?
I really like how Beatport works best. I think the previews in the same place as the add to cart, and search results is wonderful. I feel like I see the entire shop in one place, at once, and nothing else has to happen.
But then Dance Tracks definitely seems to have a much broader selection, and deeper category of (subjectively) better music.
I’m paying attention to this stuff carefully right now. Trying to determine what’s best. Any store using Real Player, or windows meadia player is out of the question for a mac user, and most creatives are on a mac. That said, most people have PC, so Flash is definitely the solution because it works perfectly on both platforms.
But what’s with the whole new window, new window, new window thing? That drives me nuts and sends me away from the shop after a very short time. I want to hear it, right there, and right then. Otherwise I tend to forget what it was, and who it was, and why I was interested in hearing it.
But then again, I really don’t like the iTunes music store either. It’s no fun at all for digging or browsing for music you might not already know about.
Every shop probably should have its own flavor, and feel, I am in favor of an at a glance solution to digital music shopping.
For now, rather than building, I’m just watching, shopping, and learning.

Hmmm..sounds like you’re thinking about launching one some day.
I think the perfect online music store would include the best of those 3.
Best of iTunes:
1. 1-click downloading that works in the background while still shopping. Their puchase process is hands-down the best.
2. User reviews. Ok, there’s a lot of idiot reviews, but even those are helpful. If a lot of idiots are listening to it, then that says something right there.
Best of Beatport:
1. I LOVE that the player has the buy button in it. Totally freed me up to continue clicking around while listening/deciding. Websurfers are multitaskers. That rocked.
2. Being able to add genres as favorites was cool, but I was disappointed that I couldn’t save sub-genres.
Best of DanceTracks:
1. The navigation is more complicated than BP, but it was a lot more fun to surf around in. If I liked a track on a compilation, I would click through to see if I liked the whole album. Amazingly, as far away as I would stray, the back button worked perfectly every time. I’m a cherry picker with eclectic tastes, so all those cross links to explore other offerings on the same lable, or other things by the same producer or artist helped me rack up $80 there.
I would love to shop at a music store you put together! A lot of people would.
