Temporary measures that last forever

Yesterday was the deadline to send in your taxes in the US. I usually do them as early in the year as possible. For some reason this year I just scowled and ignored my 1099 forms and waited until the bitter end to fill them out. When I finally got around to it the process for my federal taxes was a snap. But the state forms have really lost their grip. Maybe it was a money saving measure, but no forms were sent to my address, no booklet with instructions or tax schedules, so I scoured the state and federal web sites to find the various pdf files I needed. I discovered that the pdf documents are actually editable forms you can fill out and then print. The Federal form worked great, but the state form printed out blank and reset once you click print. It was awesome to fill it out a few times before I gave up and filled it out by hand.

I’m glad we have highways and schools, and it’s probably important to have police and some other stuff too. I understand that these “temporary measures” were such a good idea that we continue to pay them to this day… note to self, never agree to temporary measures… but I’m completely over the battle for the white house, and even more than over the current administration. It doesn’t make me mad anymore, and it stopped making me laugh sometime last year.

However, I can say it felt great to lick the envelopes and run down to the mailbox and drop them in. “Bye bye” I sang as the door clunked shut. See you next year!
