The night before I had some second thoughts about doing this. I’ve been under a great deal of pressure lately, and feeling really emotional. I didn’t want to put myself into a position where who I am, and what I do was rejected. Assuming a lot about Alameda, and cultural spaces, I felt that what I can do best wouldn’t be appropriate. So I emailed my friend Laura (Hi Laura!) and sort of expressed this as humbly and honestly as I could.
She wrote back and called repeatedly assuring me that really anything I wanted to do would be just fine. I felt more grounded in the morning, and so I agreed.
The space itself is lovely, and really something special. The donor reception was lightly attended, and marked by a gathering of Tebetian monks who lit incense and chanted beautifully.
After I played a few down tempo songs so the kids could dance with their parents.
It was a good thing to do. I’m glad I went. The best part was re meeting Bean from D’ukukoo and spending so much time with Laura.
I love it when I’m wrong. Being a dork (even with a moustache) can be a drag, but it’s always interesting, and always at least a little bit of fun too.
