sunday soul is live now!
all done for tonight. thank you for listening!
Last sunday night’s broadcast of Sunday Soul was amazing. Attendance was superb, the chat – while causing some trouble for windows users – was flowing and wide awake with love and community. I had only just returned from a brilliant trip to New York City where Dubtribe Sound System performed live at the 7th anniversary of Cielo. I love New York, and while she has changed so much so fast over the last decade, this trip I was able to walk the island from one side to the other and back again and find my sweet sexy lady right where I left her. Fuck I love dancing with you, I love singing with you, I love whispering the secrets of my soul into your thoughtless, immovable ear.
So I approached this week’s theme girl with a poster from these well worn eyes, and with my open heart I endeavored to tell the story of an invisible girl, laying dietada in her room, waiting for life to begin. I whispered, sang, spoke, and chanted for the heart and the soul of a fllower about to burst forth, an angel who could wait no more, face down dead on the floor, with wings so wide, and breathtakingly bright that anyone who even heard about her had to come and see for themselves. Impatient, brilliant, selfish, beautiful, powerful, brutally perfect in every way. When we stand up in the stream of life and make our demands it seems that life itself is slipping away, and from that perpective – our own position of protest – we are the only thing which has stopped moving. Natural as it is, and as ordinary as these moments are in our development, in the moments themselves it seems so urgent, and the fire alarms are deafening.
I wanted to sing the sweetest love song possible to my sister, my friend, my lover, my darling. For she is me, and I am she, and we will always be entwined with the kind of fires that only a soul who knows the smell of pee stained carpets, rancid garbage, the rush of heroin flowing through our veins, and the unquenchible thirst for more on our blood stained lips could ever possibly understand. A love song to express that she is not alone. Only we know just how beautiful a cold glass of water can taste, how liberating the sea washing over our toes can be, and how the love shared in a tiny little note tossed from a rooftop is the moment we have ached for all our lives. And so I folded my love up into a note, and I climbed to the roof of my treehouse, I opened up my heart, and stripped off all my clothes and let the wind take my love note, take my heart, take my mind, take my fear, take my soul and just let go…
