  3. Sunday night’s transmission, the third in a four part series of ________ with a _______, meant as love letters to the past, sweet whispers to a state of being which is at once impossibly past, and somehow ever present and a constant influence in this moment. boy with a gun was a most personal inroad back to sleeping outside, fucking a cop, leaving home, and making a different choice. I undertook a dangerous prospect of holding a sweet boy’s face in my warm and grown up hands and began to sing.

Personally, I think I bit off a little bit more than I was prepared to chew. I could do a four month series on the subject (don’t worry I won’t) but last sunday night will have to suffice for now. The past is a strange phenomena isn’t it? It’s most certainly not happening now, gone forever, and yet somehow the scars that never heal remain a contributing voice in this moment. How can I approach these experiences with love? How can I heal in a way which will celebrate my life, and liberate both the angry little boy in a leather jacket — the boy with a gun — and the radiant man he has become? Surely only a soft voice, love, and a willingness to let go of the stories I tell myself in order to somehow control and contain the anger, rage, grief, and secrets of things which are nearly unholdable, unapproachable, and gone.

As I continue forward into this momenet, love radiates all around me in the most glorious way. I had no idea that such friendship, love, tenderness, and honesty would guide me toward these avenues of the past again. I had no idea I would be asked to open my heart even wider, to love and to forgive even more. Sometimes it hurts so badly I have no idea what will become of me. Most of the time I am so free, so deeply and completely happy, so free.

Thank you for sharing this experience with me — at least as an artist — journeys to the light, from such deep darkness, and beautiful, radiant love. It means the whole wide world to me. Thank you for showing me with your sweet love, your tender ears, and your dancing feet that I am, and have never been, alone.
