What fun!
Thank you so much for the last three years. Sunday Soul began as a sort of a seed planting mission, an afternoon interview program where people would come over to my studio and talk with me for a few hours about music, house music, history, and then play some music which inspired them. Originally I didn’t feel the need to mix records because I was already doing a thursday night broadcast dedicated to new music, mixing, and various tussles… when I let go of that program to make room for a dear friend’s program, I began to play house on Sunday Soul. It was also tough to convince people to come talk to me… So sunday night became a refuge for me.
Turns out, over the last three years, Sunday Soul has revived my interest and love of electronic music in the most surprising ways. From the challenge of developing a weekly theme and sticking to it, flyers, promotion, multitasking, scheduling, and converting the broadcast into a moveable feast where we can get down from a rooftop in washington DC, the basement of a club in Manhattan, a warm sunny deck in San Francisco, or a terrace in Los Angeles… I’ve learned that anything is possible, and it’s a pleasure to devote myself to new sounds, personal mixing, and take the ultimate risks of singing, speaking, chanting, re editing on the fly, and making the music my own.
I say it every week, but I think it’s worth saying again now: Thank you. I do ths show for you. Even if you aren’t listening. I love you. May the stars light your path, lifting your heart, raising your life, loving you, and guiding you home. And may all your sundays have soul.
