Speaking of the future is now it looks like the flying car is finally here. Well, the prototype anyway. The car goes up in the air, forward, backward, side-to-side, and lands safely. It’s on ebay where the current bid is already approaching $2Million. As I think about this, I’m half dazzled dreaming of blade runner and the dreamy future of flying through the air on my skyvespa, and never boarding a commercial aircraft again. The ugly truth is that I’m also half terrified by the prospect of just how deeply unprepared we are for sky-traffic and drunk-flying, or the odd engine crapping out and one of these huge jet powered things dropping out of the air onto my house…. For now I’ll just be delighted and imagine that getting a license to drive one of these costing an arm and a leg, and the vehicles themselves coming with fierce technical standards, and on-board sobriety testing and get back to thinking about bladerunner!
