[scenework] a bar scene

a bar at 1:45am

two out of date men are the only customers left apart from a person, obviously unconscious, with his face buried in his arms at the other end of the bar. the bar is dirty, the floor is sticky, smoking is allowed, and drift wood decorates the wall and mirror behind the bar. the lights are yellow-sih and the room is fairly dark. a very corny late 70’s song is playing, inappropriately loud. this was a device to try to get the customers to leave. But the last two people in the bar have been listening carefully and are clearly moved by the experience.

the first man: obviously drunk , lips pursed, looks as if he’s about to say something, but doesn’t.
second man: holding his beer as if he’s going to drink it, but is too drunk to drink it.
bartender: counting the till and putting glasses away not paying any attention to the customers.

[the camera begins a continuous shot here moving in a circle: it starts very slowly looking over the first man's soulder from behind him and picking up speed until it get's going a little too fast for visual comfort and then stops on the bartender's face in close up at the end of the scene.]

second man: i love you man.

first man: oh shit. here we go.

second man: no seriously, i love you man.

first man: i love you man.

second man: for real?

first man: absolutely.

second man: i love you man.

first man: no, no wait a minute here…

second man: you don’t…

first man: i love you man… you don’t

second man wait, wait, wait, wait… I love you man.

first man: oh no you don’t i love you man

and so on (escalating)

the bartender: You know, You guys are really beautiful. I am so moved by your affection for one another. No really, it’s touching. But you’re gonna have to love eachother somewhere else now because we just closed.
