New Album: The Progress so far

I know it’s the holidays, and no one I know, personally, has got any money right now. Times are tough, but I wanted to remind you guys about my community supported recording project.

I am making an album based upon the work we’ve done together on Sunday Soul. The working title is ‘Gas Masks and Crazy-Girls.’ It used to be ‘Dirty-mouthed sexy braniac fashionista’ but since a pretty scarf doesn’t really make me a fashionista I decided to use a more accurate title for the project. There are 12 tracks to be included, all of which were written before your very eyes, live and on the fly during Sunday Soul broadcasts.

I am working toward a production budget and we are very nearly at 20% of the required purse. At 20% we will be able to actually begin tracking and mixing. All of the writing and basic work is done. Now it’s time to look forward and consider how we will mix it, what additional singers will be included, how we will press it … will there be enough money to do a limited vinyl run? and how will we distribute it?

In these dodgy days of digital files, the suspicious lack of record stores, and confusion about what “fun” is… I thought, almost a year ago now, that it would be a fantastique idea to bring my local community, family and friends together and ask them to put their money where there mouths are. After a couple years of traveling around the world spinning and listening to the same old story everywhere… there’s nowhere to go and there’s no good music and the old days were so awesome I got kinda bummed. These are some of the most inspirational times for house and electronic music in our collective history… it’s just gone underground. There are more inspired artists producing right now that ever before… risks are being taken, tempos are ranging wildly, and those pesky adjectives… the ever destructive niche genres… are fading away at a delightful pace. Yes, anything goes. And so it goes.

So I need your help.

Please take a moment and visit the project page on my personal web site, think about it, and join us if you are able. Any contribution is welcome, from $1 to $100 or more if you have it. I want to make the best possible album for you, in hopes that we can all come together around something which was forged in front of you, vulnerable, hand made, and dedicated to these amazing times we live in right now.

You can help:
Even if you’ve already contributed, and can not contribute more, or if you simply haven’t got the resources to contribute at all, or wouldn’t contribute I paid you to, you can still help support indie electronic music, and house and disco everywhere by spreading the word. On the project page there are e-cards to send, banners to add to your profiles, and
lots more information. Send your friends, family, and Balearic-headed associates my way. We’re stronger together, and this is more or less the point of the project. Let’s get together and see what we can do.

I hope you’re well, and the world is right here in front of you, right now.

Love and blessings,
Sunshine
