Milestone One: Sunshine’s Next Record

I’m pretty pleased to announce that my project to produce a community supported album has officially met, and passed milestone one today. The recording fund has passed 10%, the basic tracks proposed for the album have been selected, and I just couldn’t be happier!

Thank you for your support and interest in this album. You can get involved by first visiting the section for Sunshine Jones’ Next Record and read up on the project itself. I’m asking friends, family, supporters, listeners, and critics alike to gather together and help build the recording budget for my next record. All I’m really hoping is that there are about 2,500 people in the whole wide world who are willing to buy my new album up in advance. Seems like something of a humble goal to me, but in this day and age where the concept of what an album even is finds itself up in the air, definable, and while the music business sifts through the ashes of what was, it seems like the moment to begin making the decisions ourselves.

I’m going to make this album no matter what happens. I’ve already begun. However, it seems like it’s time for a focus of people and music to me. The world is active and alive, many things are going on, and always changing. As an artist, I think it’s normal for me to have an internal response. Especially in the world of the disco 12″ where we are knocking into one another, riffing off of one another, and reaching out to both DJs who play our music, and dancers who gather to get down, get out of themselves, and to be together. It is a simple purpose, but one which means everything to me. Rather than rip on what’s wrong, or what’s changed, or muse about what used to be, this feels like the moment to create sounds, say and sing words, and get together and heal in the best way I know how: dancing.
