Love is an organized utility closet

As you enter my flat, there’s a sizable closet to the right of the front door. When I first moved in it seemed like it might make a nice extra bedroom, or maybe an office. The drawbacks of using the room for anything human related were made clear when it turned out there were no electrical plugs in the room. So I promptly began shoving everything I couldn’t find a place for into the room and happily closing the door on it.

Clearing out this room, organizing it, making sense of what’s in there, sorting it out, has been on my long list of things to do for some time. In fact, “sort out the closet” has come to the top of the list, and been pushed back down to the bottom more than a few times. The crowded, unenterable room has been a source of shame, and irritation for me. I used to include this large walk in on my tours of the flat, but after one funny look and a blushing grin from me, the closet was promptly dropped from the schedule of stops. I erased the paragraphs of plans for what the room might be used for, and remarks about how unusually large the room was for a closet from the script to be read by the various tour guides who volunteer at weekends giving the guided tours of my flat to interested tourists.

Today I pulled everything out, and neatly organized the room. I can’t tell you how delighted I am, or how proud of myself I feel,. There’s really nothing like the relief of a job well done is there? It’s been a week of reunion, reflection, clear expression, forgiveness, kindness, friendship, music and erasing those long standing items from all of my lists of things I don’t want to do, but need to be done.

I love cleaning and organizing sometimes, it’s good medecine. To me it seems the more I organize what’s on the outside, the better and more clear I feel on the inside. Like it raises energy or something. Marking off from the list is nice too. Ahhhhhh.

BTW- nice titles! they look purdy that way with the foliage on the page.

I also really like the “related subjects” sidebar, and it’s ability to link ideas from various writings together. I like how the one post becomes a facet among other related pieces- the post gains a greater texture with these legs.

I like cleaning and organizing too, it clears my mind. I just recently did that to my laundry room, which had become very cluttered . Now it feels good to be in there, and even though I don’t love to do laundry, I can enjoy the space and find some pleasure in my least favorite chore.

This week in general has been refreshing. Though I can’t say I’ve been particularly happy, I’ve certainly been busy. Lots of things to go out and do, and a lot of work to be done… the kind of work I don’t like to do. Many things… all done. A good head space indeed.
