Lateral thinking is a kind of logical deduction I am actually good at. As an abstract thinker, I revel in vagaries, generalities, perception and emotion. I love to ponder the essence of culture and values, and occasionally I discover what a merciless cynic I can be, sometimes I am delighted to discover how much I love, and how deeply I listen and pay attention.

But lateral thinking is something else entirely. I’ve never been good at puzzles, or ever tested well… not since the old IQ test in grade school when they decided I was “gifted” and needed to be in museums and out on farms milking cows… thus, I never learned my times tables, and the pedantic trivialities of sentence diagraming, spelling, and a well structured essay were lost to me forever. But that never mattered. I was going to be dead, and famous before I was 21 anyhow, so whatever dude.

So here’s the trick:
You have to figure out what is and what is not in the land of Ogg…

Ready?

In the land of Ogg there are trees, but there are no leaves.
In the land of Ogg there are spoons, but there are no forks, no knives, no cutlery.
In the land of Ogg those spoons won’t do you any good because there is no soup, and there are no bowls, but there is a lot of food.

Think you’ve got it?

Give it a try…

And if you are a visual thinker, you can enjoy the group on flickr

  1. Erich:

    I think i have it.
Erich is not in the land of Ogg, but his friend sunny is.
There are no cars, no motorcycles, but a whole lot of scooters.
The scooters go nowhere, because there is no gas, but if they could, there are a whole lot of streets that people travel by foot on.
    :)

  2. Yes. I believe you have it Erich.

However, I would correct you by saying that in the land of Ogg there is no such thing as “nowhere.”
