I’ve arrived safely in Byron Bay. I’m playing in an hour or so across the hall in a very nice little club here. Byron Bay is a beautiful beach community, though well developed, still hot, mellow and very, very different from Adelaide and Sydney.

Sugar was epic. I played five hours, following HMC’s amazing set, and at first there were issues. Lots of people behind the decks, hard to hear, spilled drinks and a drummer who was crazy on the bells. But somehow, like magic, Lindy handed me a note which simply said “me happy” and that seemed to make everything align perfectly. My music, old and new went beautifully, as did my mini electro set, and in the morning we were exhausted and grinning together like we do. The sun streamed into sugar, and everyone wanted to keep the party going. I went back to the hotel and crashed hard for four hours before getting up to head to the airport.

The flight was short, but felt long. I sat next to an affectionate older couple who couldn’t keep their hands off each other. The $4 cheese and crackers were actually ok.

I was met at the Brisbane airport by Dan and his partner, we drove to Byron Bay and talked about politics, sociology and the odd slang of the Australians.

I’m here, connect to the network in their flat where I’m staying. Gotta get ready and go spin another set. Tonight is a short, two hour set, and will be mainly my own music. I’m looking forward to about 12 hours of sleep and a day on the beach.

There’s so much more to say about my friends in Adelaide, and all the millions of feelings and thoughts running through my head, but there’s just no time to try to encapsulate them right now. I’ll follow up tomorrow with more.

  1. It’s sounding wonderful! Have a great second set and enjoy the collapse onto the beach…
