Excited about Electro?

I’ve been preparing a program for broadcast this sunday. If you don’t already know, every sunday night from 10pm until midnight I present a show called SundaySoul:”SundaySoul(my weekly program airs from 10pm -12am or later on 90hz.org)”:http://90hz.org/ on a community internet radio station called 90hz.org. I’ve had guests, great conversations, traced my own musical influences, production history, and demonstrated a tutorial on how to remix unsyncopated music. For this weekend’s show I have been ploughing through my baggage of the 1980’s electro and hip hop movements. The 1980’s were a dreary time for me. Though an amazing amount of development came out of the era, I look back at the biggest mistakes I ever made personally, sexually, emotionally, stylistically, and all the hard knocks I took as the result, combine that with 8 years of Reagan, and 4 years of Bush, crack, and AIDS and I really haven’t got any desire at all to revive, relive, or idealize that 10 year period. Yet there have been a few serious epiphanies in seeking the music of Afrika Bambaata, Kraftwerk, Man Parrish, and even Le Tigre. There’s nothing quite like looking into something with a bit of cynicism, and pulling out more than one surprise. Surprise enough to melt away the ice of bias, and the mortar of denial.

As the result of my preparation for tonight’s show, I think it’s fair to say that for the first time in quite a while I am excited about music…

I am looking forward to it Sunshine, although I may have to seek out a T-1 connection to listen.

ooo…sounds way more fun than hiding in my office! I can just imagine the campus police knocking on the door, wondering what I am doing at my desk at midnight. As long as I have to drive someplace it might as well be to “the source”. I take you up on the offer. Are you missing anything in your collection? I have a lot of vinyl. I’m so old skool ya know.

If you happen to have an untapped supply of mid 80’s electro singles on sleeping bag, or any other such label, please bring them.

I caught segements of your show while I was half awake, I get your show at 9am out here in Bahrain, it buffered alot on the connection out here, the dsl is slow compared to the States or Europe. I enjoyed the tracks you played, and of course the commentary is great to hear after each song. I have so much of that music in my own collection, from time to time I still play them in my sets, especially the more rare titles that people passed in the 80’s, and only wierdos like myself had the guts back then to buy for some odd reason. Too bad I was not in SF last week, I would have been most happy to bring loads of Sleeping Bag stuff I have. Keep up the great show! You should syndicate your show in other countries! My only complaint is when you gonna archive your past shows so we can download them as mp3s! Peace bro..

I wonder if we could fina a way to connect electronically from wherever you are?

    Are you on a mac?
    Do you use skype?

It’s possible… but i think you would have to send me 2 15 minute mixes in advance because talking via skype would work great, but music would not.

    you up for it?
