bouquet.JPGI wrote to be funny, and cute. Naturally I have no real concept of what’s funny, or what’s cute. I am a strange bird, and the things that make me laugh are rarely the same things which make most people laugh, so what do I know about any of that?

I said “Don’t do it!” and I was kidding. It’s not my place to say anything about what anyone should do or not do. After all, we create our own prisons, and suffer from our own fears, and sometimes the only way to manage ourselves is to place our hearts into boxes, or struggle and suffer for decades. We human beings do any number of things and call it “happy.” We’re all strange birds really, aren’t we?

I looked into her twinkling eyes, knowing full well what I was saying, and said simply “Don’t do it!” with a huge grin on my face. He’s wonderful, and perfect for her. She knows it, he knows it, and I know it. So does everyone else. But it was charming to take her hand, stare into her eyes and say it. It was a nice moment. We laughed. She’s funny when she’s under stress. I like that about people. I love how we have so many personalities which all come out to have a peek at the people we’re talking with. Unlike professional relationships, or introductions where we’re trying to be a certain way to produce a result, rather, friendship is more like finger painting. I like it better that way.

She took my posturing in stride, as I knew she would, and said “No, no.. It’s better this way.”

Swooning I could only ask why, how on earth it could possibly ever be better this way?

“This way I will never have to break up with you.”

We laughed our heads off.

You should have been there to see the dazzling afternoon light glimmering off her dark, and thoughtful eyes as she simply said the words. The only words. The perfect response. What a treasure, what a delight. Oh I adore smart people who are open, quick, honest and wonderful. There’s just nothing like them. And I say there are simply far too few of them.

At any rate, the day arrived, it was yesterday. So this is all postscript now.
