From the vaults of music which almost brought the worlds of camp tribal revival and cross dressing political activism to the forefront of the world wide arts scene leapt The Birthday Party. Spitting, screeching, gyrating, stomping on the desk tops before standing up straight and shouting out incoherent poetry with the conviction of a mule, sleeping on its feet in a ruined barn.
The Birthday Party arrived with the likes of Subway Sect, The Raincoats, Glaxo Babies, Pere Ubu, Lydia Lunch, the Pop Group, Rip Rig + Panic, and fused poetry, literature, punk rock and rhythmic free dance. They kicked ass.
